The girls and I have spent the last two days making bird marionettes. I think Todd will recognize these from somewhere :)

Hello, Hello:)

Hi Everyone....Not sure what I might be doing wrong, but I didn't see where Patty or Amy made a post, but I saw where Todd made a comment? Hmm.
Anyhoo...things are going really good with Charlie being home! She starts at Boone County in a few weeks, she's a little nervous, but excited too! It's been a transition with all that has gone on, but have to say we are happy:)

Hope all is well with everyone!
Love~

Okay, I am going to attempt to post some pictures from our adventures this summer. We went to Disney for 8 days - very hot and crowded, but fun overall. Hannah fought Darth Vader in a light saber battle, and Allison was picked to be in the Shamu show at Seaworld. The rollercoaster is a new ride called Manta. Dave was the only one brave enough to ride this one. Also, Sean and Hannah rode their first rollercoaster - Goofy's Barnstormer.

Allison went to Girl Scout camp for a week, and I went down for part of the week as the camp nurse....lots of snakes, but very fun! Haven't donwloaded these photos yet, but will try to soon.

So what did everyone else do?

Miss Everyone

Hello to all, hope all is going well. We are actually at Danny's in Columbus this week. Scott is preaching at a youth camp this week about an hour or so away so we decided since it was so close, he could drop us off on his way there. Thought there may be a way to come down there for a quick visit but couldn't work it out.

We miss all of you, seeing all the family pictures and events, wish we lived closer to be able to see all of you more. Special hello to Grandma, love to all.

Goddard Space Flight Center

I just got an email from the NASA-Goddar Space Flight Center saying that they are building a mockup of the Space Shuttle Flight Deck, and they were wondering if I could help them out with dimensions! How cool is that!!!! And they said it was nicely done!!

To quote a friend of mine, "Savor this. At this moment, you are King of all geeks everywhere. I humbly submit my name for Minister of Nerdiness."

Cool!!

Happy Summer

I cannot believe that another month has gone by. There is so much going on around here. May has certainly been a month of mothers.....

After sitting on a nest up next to the kitchen window, Mrs. Duck finally hatched 11 new babies. There was one egg that did not hatch. After less than 8 hours she left the nest with the babies close behind and made her way to a lake that is located in the neightborhood behind us.

It was fun to watch her sit and turn her eggs each day and then finally watch them hatch. Perhaps next year one of them will be back to nest here.

This is our third next of Robin's this year. These little ones are ready to fly and be on their own. We really enjoy all the spring wild life around here!!

Speaking of special mothers.....

That's Grandma in the striped shirt and white hat. We went to a Red's game just a few days before her 93rd birthday. It was a beautiful day (unfortunately the Red's lost) but we all had a good time together. (That is Teal, Chris Schneider and Carolyn Reis - cousins -. Kim is taking the picture.)

We celebrated her birthday the following Sunday. I can't believe she is 93, but overall she is feeling pretty good and is staying very active.

Other news from Northern Kentucky is that Uncle Mike has a new assignment. He will no longer be the pastor at St. Benedict's (where Julie and Cory got married), but will be working at the Diocesean Offices full time. He will be the chaplain for a convent in Walton, Kentucky and living on the property. He will be moving soon and strart his new assignment July 1.

Brian has also gotten a new job. He will no longer be working here in Florence, but will be working just north of downtown Cincinnati. He is very excited about his new position.

Good luck to both Mike and Brian as they start their new jobs.

The kids here have three more days of school this year. Summer vacation will begin on Thursday of this next week. And then it is off for vacations. The Wiehoff's and Ted and I will be going to Gulf Shores for a week. The LaRoy's are headed to Disney. Hope to have pictures of both of these events.

Todd, are you still using your telescope regularly? Miss seeing pictures.
Looking forward to Ken and Todd's visit in July. We will have a big fourth of July event while they are here. Andy will be home then so it will be special.

When you get a chance, drop us all a line and let us know what you are all doing.

The Toddwick Chronicles

I totally forgot to tell you all about this.

I post stuff on here that I think is relevent and interesting to the family, but I maintain a blog of my own outside of this one with all my crazy thoughts.

It is called The Toddwick Chronicles, and it's very much like The Chronicles of Narnia, but without the attic wardrobe closet, talking animals, magic and it's spelled differently.

. . . . . hmm, I guess it isn't really that much like The Chronicles of Narnia. Scratch that.

Anyhoo, you can take a look here:

I update almost every day, and feel free to leave comments and check back from time to time.

Update for Charlie

Clinton went on his yearly fishing trip, unfortunately it has now been postponed until the 19th of May.

According to the courts, they both need to be there. Vickie is being really hateful to Charlie, she is sending threats via Charlie to me saying if I do not cooperate, that she will contest Charlie's move to our house. Charlie is just sick over this!! She begged me last night to cooperate (which I am doing so) with Vickie and asked me to do what ever they want so she can move. I feel so bad for her, I can take Vickie bullying me and saying negative things to me, but Charlie isn't thick skinned and I am worried about her having to deal with this for 2 more weeks. They are all being so negative about me to her, I am afraid she'll give in so this will stop.
Please just keep the support, prayers and positive feedback coming!!
We appreciate everyone's efforts!!
Love to all,
Amy Sue

I need help!

Hi everyone!
As you all know, I have a court appointment on Tuesday, May 5th to finally bring Charlie home. As of 2 weeks ago, Clint and Vickie told Charlie that they would not fight my getting custody of Charlie, in fact, they told her to tell me to not put this off, to get it taken care of right away so it wasn't a dragged out process, they also told her that come May 5th, she had to leave, even though we had all agreed for her to finish out her school year in Grant County. As of yesterday, for what ever reason, unknown to me, Vickie went to Charlie and told her I need to not do this yet, that I should cancel the court date. She told Charlie that I am unstable, ran me in the ground a little more then told Charlie that I need to really put this off until July if I knew what was good for me. I am not canceling my court appointment on Tuesday, as Charlie still wants to come home to me ASAP.
This is where all of you step in. I need to know if you would be willing to write (or email me) a note to the courts about a positive character reference-about me? If so, your help in bringing Charlie home, would be SO GREATLY APPRECIATED!
I thank all of you in advance for your support!
Love,
Amy

More Space Pictures

I got two more pictures this past weekend. Still learning . . .

This is M67, the Cobra Cluster. It is composed of 30 separate 42 second exposures stacked and aligned.

This one is a little over-exposed. It is a region in Leo called the Leo-Tripple. It is three galaxys very close to one another. This is also 30 separate 42 second exposures stacked and aligned.

Calendar

Good Morning All:
I just happend upon something on the net and thought it might be helpful to some of you - especially if you have little ones around and are running in ten different directions. Go to www.bhg.com which is the Better Homes and Gardens web page. On the right hand side of the screen there are three 'boxes' (for want of a better word) The third box down from the top has three tabs along the top of the box. (I know this is confusing but I think it will be pretty obvious when you get there) The third tab is entitled "calendar". Click on that and it goes to a web page that helps you set up a color coded calendar for all your activities. It can then be accessible by your cell phone.......something like that. Anyway it is free and from a secure site and sounded interesting for those with busy schedules.

More news: Kim and Nick were in a small accident earlier this week. No one was hurt but both were pretty shaken. We are waiting from the insurance company to decide if their car can be fixed. Things can happen so fast; we never know what is waiting around each corner.

The weather is beautiful here today - going up to 70. Today is Ted's birthday and we have decided to go to Keeneland for the day. It is so beautiful there and we really enjoy it. But tomorrow - yard work, yard work, yard work. Spring is such a busy time!

Love to all, let us hear from all of you. b

Birth Announcements

We are very pleased to announcement the birth of our 3 new Robins.

The nest is on top of a straw shelving unit on our back porch. When we went out this morning to check on the nest, we found 3 eggs had just hatched, and the 4th is still there. The mother Robin is quite bust so we could not stay long.

We are on the look out for Baby Canadian Mallards......But we have not even found the nest. Elmer and Gertrude have been daily visitors to our back porch dinning room and seem to be quite happy with the menu of bird seed.

We will keep everyone informed as things develop.

Happy Easter

Happy Spring and Happy Easter to everyone. We have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Spring around here and I think I can safely say it has arrived.

Spring has finally come to Kentucky. A robin built this next on top of a straw shelf on the downstars patio. She is very protective and fusses at us each time we go outside. We did manage to get this picture. Should have babies before too long!

Here is another sure sign of Spring. This is Mr. and Mrs. Duck (a.k.a. Elmer and Gertrude) They have been visiting us each spring since we had the pool. They used to like to swim in the water that had accumulated in the cover over the winter. They would then meander up to the bird feeder and have a snack. (We used to call it "Club Ted") After we had the pool taken out, they still come by each Spring to visit. Ted almost has them eating out of his hand this year. They are beautiful and so much fun to watch.

And of course, my personal favorite sign of Spring. My first hand picked beautiful flower picked just for me. Doesn't get any better than this!!

Thanks to everyone who has added to the blog. It is really fun seeing what everyone is doing....from viewing the moon (great pictures Todd) to seeing a 'crest' for our name (another bird!) to news about the Turkeys in Grant County (Linda had great pictures last week) to birthday wishes. Speaking of birthdays........ Father Rick had a great birthday party last week for Uncle Mike and Aunt Linda. Everyone had such a great time. The kids especially loved riding the horses........

Hope you all have a great Easter and enjoy Spring. Love to everyone, hope to hear from all of you soon.

Good Morning

Hi everyone,
Hope all are doing well and looking forward to the warmer weather. I sure am!!
I found something while checking the news today that may be of interest. Go to channel 9 news site and look for "New tool to help with groceries" or something to that effect. It's a new site that will help with your grocery shopping by letting you know where the best deals are for your grocery list. Free coupon sites are also listed.
I have to always be on the lookout to save money, as I'm sure we all are, and this sounded interesting to me. It's free to sign up, so thought I'd pass this along and see what you all think. Hope it's something useful. It's called GROCIO and I'm not sure if you can get to their site by way of search engine. Won't hurt to give it a try if you think you may be interested.
We are both fine here, and not much new to pass along. Just waiting for the weather to break and stay warm.
Take care and hugs to all.

Fleece Blankets

In the family exchange at Christmas, we received the most wonderful blanket from Julie & Cory...an oversized fleece blanket made by Julie. It has become our favorite! Emily was inspired by Julie's handiwork and talked about making her own. Yesterday, we ventured to the fabric store and she picked out some fleece. While we were there, Nick spotted a Steeler's fleece and couldn't resist! So, we spent the rest of the weekend cutting and tying and now they each have a new throw blanket and pillow to match! Thanks for the inspiration Julie!

Hope everyone is staying warm and avoiding cabin fever!

Out with the old

We FINALLY got a new washer and dryer. The old dryer died late last week, and the washing machine didn't have a functioning hot water inlet and you got a mild shock if you touched it while it was running.

Out with the old . . .

Maybe something of Interest for the kids

Hi All,

Todd, you sure have your work cut out for you!! When you get done, maybe you could help me around here?

Thanks for the scones recipe Bonnie. Sounds wonderful, but we'll have to finish the Pineapple Upside Down Cake I made before I try these.

I came across something the other day that I thought maybe the kids would like......maybe even some of the adults. Go to www.cottagetales.com/index.shtml. Susan Wittig Albert has written a series of books featuring Beatrix Potter and her friends. Looks kind of cute and I didn't know if you all were aware of this site or not. I know that your kids like to read and thought this may be something different.

We are fine here. Nothing new to report. Glad to see some of the snow melt and the temp go up some.

Hugs to all. Linda

Just When We Thought It Was Safe to Venture Out Again......

Hi everybody:

We were just beginning to return to normal when we were hit with another batch of snow yesterday. I was out grocery shopping with Grandma when Dad (Ted) called and said that we were under a Winter Weather Advisory. Grandma and I quickly (?) finished our shopping and I got her home before the heavy snow began to fall. I think we got another 3 - 4 inches before it was all done. The kids are off school today and things are moving slow again. You will notice that there are no pictures of them frolicing in the snow or the birds sitting pretty in the trees. The novelty has worn off !!!! One nice surprise. Barbara Shierenbeck from next door sent over a very nice dessert yesterday for Dad and I because he cleaned their driveway twice last week. Who'd a thunk????? Since we are unable to do much else we decided to paint the family room. Dad has been working all day and hopefully he will be finished tomorrow One bright spot in all of this was seeing everyone's pictures and hearing from everyone. It has been more fun than I even thought.

Ken, the cookies look fantastic. Thanks for the recipe.
Patti, I will add the recipe for Cinnamon Bun Scones for you. They are really easy and soooo good.
Linda, I think you must have had more snow and ice that we did up here. Our gutters all look fine. Thanks for the 'heads up'.
Todd, I don't know what to tell you about your breakfast casserole but I am sure Bob Evans never intended for it to look that way. Did you eat it? How did it taste?
Fr. Rick and Uncle Mike, those are really good pictures. Looks like you both were having fun. Thanks for sharing.
Speaking of pictures. I love all the pictures of the kids. We are all so lucky to have such good looking young'uns.

Everyone I talk to around here is talking about 'watching their weight'. I am sure it has a lot to do with all those Christmas Cookies we worked on. I have an idea! How about if each of you share a salad or salad dressing recipe that you particularly like. We can then each try some of them while we are busy counting calories? But I am getting ahead of myself, for today here is the recipe for the scones. Happy baking. bj

Iced Cinnamon Bun Scones

Makes 8 scones

2/3 c. light brown sugar
1 stick (4 oz.) cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/2" dice, pluse 2 Tbl. softened butter
1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
3 c all purpose flour, plus more for dusting
1/3 c. granulated sugar
1 Tbl. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. heavy cream
1 large egg
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1/4 c. cream cheese, softened
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
2 c. confectioners' sugar

Preheat oven to 425. Line a large heavy baking sheet with parchment paper. In a food processor, pulse the brown sugar with the 2 Tbl. of softened butter and 1 tsp. cinnamon until soft crumbs form. Transfer the mixture to a bowl. In the food processor, combine 3 c. flour with the granulated sugar, baking powder, salt and remaining 1/4 tsp. cinnamon and pulse to blend. Add the diced butter and pulse until the mixutre resembles small peas. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and make a well in the center. Add the cream, egg and vanilla to the well and stir to combine. Using a wooden spoon, gradually stir in the flour mixture until a firm dough forms. Crumble the brown sugar mixture over the dough and knewd it into the dough, leaving some streaks. Lightly dust a work surface with flour. Turn the dough out onto it and knead 3 times. Pat or roll the dough into an 8" round, about 1" thick. Cut into 8 wedges, then transfer the scones to the baking sheet and refrigerate for 10 minutes. Bake for 18-20 min. or until browned. Let cool slightly on the sheet, then transfer to a wire rack. In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese with the lemon juice. Beat in the confectioners sugar until smooth. Spread the icing over the warm scones.

These can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

Heads Up

Hi All,

First I'd like to say I hope everyone is well, warm and happy.

Second, I thought I'd alert you to check the gutters on your homes for those of us that are having the ice and snow. Last night, ours in some places started to fall off due to the weight. Lee went out with a shovel and tried to knock some of the ice and snow off of them, but the damage is done. Thought I'd let you know to check yours so no one gets hit by falling gutters when this does start to melt.

Then, also Todd, my password does not work. That's why I'm using your moms again. Any suggestions?

Take care and love to you all,
Linda
